10
years of totnes tkd
A
group of students, staff and parents attended our
first ever totnes meal, celebrating 10 years of
its existence. Originally the club was run by Mrs
wendy Casban
3rd degree, under the taekwon-do Association of
Great Britain, 3 years later Mr Peter O'Neill 4th
Degree took over the club. Mr O'Neill being Lesley's
original tkd instructor from Dawlish.
On september 1st 2000, Lesley then took over Totnes
tkd, and on this same day the new Professional
Unification of Martial Arts (PUMA) commenced. Totnes
has gone from strength to
strength over the last 5 years, with many of the
Black belt students and even their instructor
gaining Credit, Distinction and Grading Award passes.
Darren Luker, 1st Degree was also part of PUMA's
National Display Team up to the end of this year,
and several students have been invited to attend
the National Squad training because of their future
potential. Recently Ms Tamzin Dawkins
2nd kup, gave up her primary teaching job, and
has taken on the role of Chief Little PUMA instructor,
thus being able to open up more places for 4-6
yr olds to start martial arts.
50 years of tkd.
Local clubs from South Hams, Teign
valley and Teignbridge got together at decoy Country Park
in Newton Abbot, for a training seminar and family fun
day, to celebrate 50 years of tkd. Mr Bedborough, Mr Mortimore
and Ms Mcghie all 3rd Degrees, instructed all morning,
with MS dawkins taking the little puma session.Over 60
students took part in technical tkd, kickboxing, bo staff
training and little puma's, which was all well received.
After a picnic lunch many of the young kids played in the
paddling pool and play ground whilst others went for a
paddle in the lake. All was very quiet and sedate until
Charlie and Louis decided they would chase Chief Instructor
in their canoes in the hope of catching up and tipping
her in. But they forget.....chasing a 3rd Dan......foolish,
they just could not catch up, and lesley enjoyed passing
by, giving them a good soaking instead, with her paddle.
Get practicing boys for next year!!!!!!
