P.U.M.A.
Health and Safety
Chairman's policy statement
Issue
1.0 7 May 2003
I am committed to ensuring
the health, safety and welfare of all P.U.M.A. instructors and students.
I believe that an excellent club is by definition a safe one. Since
I am committed to excellence in all P.U.M.A. activities, it follows
that minimising risks to people is inseparable from all other P.U.M.A.
objectives.
It is my policy to:
- Preserve human and
physical resources by eliminating accidents and incidents within
clubs;
- Ensure that the highest
standards of health and safety are implemented by promoting the
co-operation between individuals, safety representatives and other
groups;
- Adopt a “no
blame” culture and to encourage all P.U.M.A. members to
report deficiencies in our practices, procedures or facilities
and to report near misses;
- Ensure that suitable
and relevant information relative to health and safety at work
is disseminated to instructors and others, as necessary and appropriate;
- Provide guidance
to instructors to allow them to assess the hazards involved in
all club activities and to ensure that appropriate measures are
taken to reduce the risks;
- To assess the hazards
involved in all major P.U.M.A. activities and to ensure that appropriate
measures are taken to reduce the risks;
- Involve all levels
of the management team and other P.U.M.A. members, in a continual
programme to monitor our health and safety performance by conducting
safety audits, inspections and tours of all P.U.M.A. activities;
In implementing this
policy I expect a positive health, safety and environmental culture
to be fostered and supported by visible and active leadership at
all levels.
