Kingsbridge TKD School Celebrates 11 years of training

Our Kingsbridge adults thoroughly enjoyed their 11th birthday celebrations (we missed our 10th anniversary last year due to so many students training for black belt). Thanks to Adam Pratt for his help in organising our Tapas meal at his place of work and working out a great deal. Awards were given to Phil Medway and Corinne Sri Widada for their continued training from the very first year that Kingsbridge started. Also an award went to Sophie Barnett, as our newest Black Belt Assistant Instructor and Little PUMA Instructor. She has put so much energy into her LP classes and has helped me so much when I have needed someone. Thanks again all. I also want to thank our junior Black Belts, for all their help in the past year, especially Sam Barnett, Dan Stone and Louis Gautier, who all help regularly.

March 2009

edition of Planet Puma.

The South Hams Little Pumas were the first to take part in the Caring World theme. The students took part in activities such as making junk models to do with TaeKwon-Do, recycling games and learning about how to care for others and the planet.

South Brent - new Chief Instructor

Congratulations to Miss Dawkins…
who has now taken over the South Brent School as a Registered School owner. We wish Miss Dawkins and all her students all the best, and remind them that they are still members of our overall South Hams family, and are still welcome to share events and training with us.

Black Belt Presentation Evening April 2009

-----
At the Professional Unification of Martial Arts 20th Presentation Evening, the South Hams students and families were delighted with the results.

In between the Masters jokes, photos displayed meant to embarrass students and entertain the masses, caricaturist doing her rounds, displays by top students in various martial arts, a buffet meal and stories of some of our PUMA squad who went to Ghana to help teach, there were over 300 families and
their Tang So Do, Taekwon-do and Kickboxing students who applauded the successes of a recent Black Belt Grading and other achievements. More

Little PUMA Black Belts March and July 2009

Congratulations to Oscar Malin-Clegg of Totnes, Harry Burner of Kingsbridge and Amy Tortoishell and Sylvia Elliot-Ridley of Broadhempston, who all passed their Black belts in March 2009.

Well done also to Joshua Kingdom and Harry Durant who passed their LP Black Belts at Kingsbridge in July 2009.

Eight local British Champions from the South Hams

The results of the British Black Belt Championships were truly magnificent, with only 8 of us attending. Our thoughts were with Louis Gautier who after entering was not able to make it in the end for another important sports engagement.

So 8 of us took part, in this event that started at 1pm and went on till about 8.30pm. It was a long and tiring day with all the final events being held at the very end, in one central ring. It was a very nerve-racking experience. Then after all the events, the medals and trophies were awarded by Master Ogborne and Master Black on the rostrum stands, which actually was a fun way of giving out these awards. Mega cheering by the south hams
students in support of each other. Well done all. We are awesome! We are all looking forward to next year, and now that we have attended this first event of its kind, we definitely need to bring more spectators and even more black belt competitors. It was so much fun. Sophie Barnett kindly emailed a few words on her experience. ’I am sooooo proud to be part of such an amazing club. The feeling of togetherness that we have is fantastic and I'm sure that that is one of the reasons why the South Hams Massif continue to bring
home prizes.’
