Staff seminar and Grading February 2007
A small
group of instructors & students from Teign
Valley , Torbay & South Hams Taekwon-do schools took
part in the first weapons seminar of its kind. Mr Weyman,
3 rd Degree, the Chief Instructor for PUMA Tang Soo Do,
travelled to Devon to grade students in the use of the
long staff, otherwise known as Bo or Bong. Training in
staffs is not part of the Taekwon-do syllabus, but with
Tang Soo Do in the same organisation, both being part of
the Professional Unification of Martial Arts (PUMA), the
students are lucky enough to get the chance to do some
cross training in different martial art disciplines.
On Saturday,
filling one of the facilities at Dartington Hall, the Black
Belts and coloured belts practised their drills, handling
skills and bong patterns under the supervision of the black
belt examiner. After 2 ½ hours of whirring
staffs, the group then graded, passing level 1 & 2 of
the Tang Soo Do Weapons Syllabus.
Students
will receive their certificates and level 1 & 2
suit patches, the first of its kind in this national multi
martial art organisation.
